Abstract

This study Humanize the following text while keeping the original meaning, tone, and length. provides an insight into the social and environmental effects of large-scale infrastructure projects on urban areas; specifically, it assesses the impact of sustainable urban mobility and transit-oriented development (TOD). Rapidly expanding cities like Lahore require new strategies to reduce traffic congestion and pollution and improve the quality of life for their inhabitants. One of the most significant urban transportation projects in Pakistan is the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), created as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). To evaluate the impact of the OLMT on social welfare, environment and travel behavior, this research collected data through survey questionnaires, field observations, and land use analysis. The effectiveness of OLMT on commuters is assessed in terms of disabled-friendly infrastructure, reduction in time and monetary costs, and future amenity value. However, the project also posed some disruptions and inconveniences to neighboring districts during the construction phase. This research aims to inform decision-making by offering evidence-based strategies to enhance social welfare and mitigate negative impacts of urban transportation projects in Pakistan. Overall, the findings of the study highlight the importance of integrating transportation planning with land-use policies and provide recommendations for adopting innovative urban transportation planning paradigm for sustainable urban development.
