Abstract

Self-assessment plays a fundamental role in measuring students’ success as it enables them to look upon their performance, development and to improve their learning. This study sought to understand how students felt about self-evaluation and to measure their perceptions and its effects on critical thinking. The targeted population were all the students of public universities of Pakistan, that were selected through convenient sampling. A questionnaire consists of four-point Likert scale that was administered to selected 460 respondents of BS, Masters and M.Phil. The statistical package for social sciences software was used to examine the data that was collected. Mean score and standard deviation were calculated. The primary findings of the research indicated that critical thinking enhances learning, develops capacity for decision-making, and helps in solving problems in pupils. It has been shown that self-assessment helps students understand more effectively how to recognize and address their own learning challenges. The students consistently recognized that self-reflection improved their comprehension of the material covered in class. More research should expand on the findings of this study in order to improve students' critical learning outcomes and make use of self-assessment as a teaching tool.
